MASSACHUSETTS — State Sen. Joan Lovely has fended off a Republican challenger to retain her seat in the 2nd Essex district representing Beverly, Danvers, Peabody and Salem.

According to unofficial results Tuesday night, Lovely had about 62 percent of the vote to Anketell's 38 percent of the vote.
