SALEM, MA — Salem Ward 6 City Councilor Elect Megan Riccardi said she is extra thankful this year after her one-vote election victory held up after a five-hour-long recount Monday. In a Facebook post Wednesday, Riccardi said she is looking forward to serving Ward 6 and thanked her opponent, Jerry Ryan, as well as the election workers and her supporters.

"I am so humbled by the support received from family and friends, both old and new," Riccardi said. "Running a campaign is not a small task, even more so when it carries over to a recount, and I most certainly did not do it alone. Thank you to all that have helped with your encouragement, sign-holding, literature dropping and recounting."

Ryan has not responded to requests for comment to Patch. In comments to the Salem News following Monday's recount, he said he still had concerns and would likely file challenges to portions of the recount in Salem Superior Court, including challenges to some absentee ballots and a concern over a man who was turned away when he tried to vote on election night.

Still, Ryan told the newspaper the recount that came with the same 612-611 result was "a good sign" because "it shows the will of the voters."
