Brown Water May Linger After Tuesday's Supply Line Break

The water supply line to Salem that broke on Tuesday was repaired early Wednesday morning.

Some water discoloration may continue on Wednesday morning, mainly in North Salem, after a water supply line burst on Tuesday afternoon.

The water line that broke was one of three Beverly-Salem Water Supply Board pipes feeding Salem from Beverly, and there was “minimal impact to Salem’s water pressure and volume,” according to Salem city officials. The break, which occurred along Liberty Street in Danvers, was repaired by about 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

“For the most part, the impact on Salem water users was minimal with some low water pressure and dirty water,” Salem DPW director John Tomasz told Salem Patch.

If water users were still seeing brown water on Wednesday, they were told to not turn on the hot water and instead run cold water until it is clear.

“Also, if you have discolored water, do not do laundry until your water runs clear,” Salem city officials said in a CodeRed phone alert on Wednesday.
