Bruins Are Tops In Google's Year In Search

Boston loves its sports teams, Game of Thrones and snow days, according to Google's annual look at search trends in Massachusetts.

BOSTON, MA — Google released its 2019 Year In Search Wednesday, and it was the Bruins — not the Patriots, Red Sox or Celtics —that topped the regional lists of trending searches for both Boston and Massachusetts. The search giant compiles the regional lists by looking at the aggregation of trillions of search queries over the course of the year.

The trending queries are the searches that had a high spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2019 as compared to 2018. So David Ortiz, for example, makes the list by going from retired slugger in 2018 to violent crime victim in 2019. The snowier winter in Massachusetts means there was a spike in both "School Closings MA" and "snow day calculator."
