Construction Projects Will Reroute Traffic

SALEM— Two projects will be redirecting traffic in Salem this week. National Grid will be performing work at 1-3 Rosedale Avenue., 464-476 Lafayette Street from Monday, Aug 29 to Monday, Sept. 4 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Canal Street Roadway Improvement Project will continue to operate in the same areas as last week. All Canal Street businesses are open during this roadway improvement project.

At three locations this week contractors will be working on sidewalk installation; on the southbound side of Canal Street between St. Paul Street and Domino's, and on both the north and southbound side of the Canal between Forest Avenue and Hersey Street. You may also notice activity at the Jefferson Avenue-Loring Avenue intersection as contractors work to finish grading and adding gravel to the island.

This week's activities include:

  • Forming and pouring retaining wall along shared-use path
  • Backfilling new retaining wall, setting conduits, handholes, and lightpole foundations in shared-use path
  • Placing concrete sidewalk on the southbound side of Canal Street between St. Paul Street and Domino's, and between Forest Ave and Hersey Ave both sides of street
  • Placing gravel and dense grade at island in Jefferson Avenue-Loring Avenue intersection
  • Finishing forming and pouring retaining wall along shared-use path
  • Backfilling new retaining wall, setting conduits and lightpole foundations in shared-use path
  • Setting curb on the southbound side of Canal Street between Gardner Street and Domino's
  • Subgrading and placing gravel for concrete sidewalks between Gardner Street and Domino's
