Construction Temporarily Blocks Sidewalks, Limits Pedestrian Access Near T Station
Two concurrent construction projects are limiting the number of safe pedestrian routes along Bridge Street near Salem station.

Pedestrians trying to walk down Bridge Street, under the North Street overpass, are going to find it next to impossible for the next few days.
Salem city officials said a subcontractor for the MBTA is working to reconstruct the sidewalks under the overpass “to improve accessibility.”
Right up the street, at the same time, is the project to demolish the Registry of Deeds building. While technically on Federal Street, the rear of the building abuts Bridge Street. The sidewalk has been rerouted in the area, behind Jersey barriers.

What’s still open to pedestrians while the work is happening are two crossings at the intersection of Washington and Bridge streets, according to an announcement by the city of Salem.
“This should be a relatively short situation and the city will update any improvements as they occur,” the announcement stated.
