Greenhouse School Starts Planting

Students start planting at the Greenhouse School.

Record breaking temperatures across the northeast made it perfect weather for the kids to get out and start preparing the ground for planting at The Greenhouse School.

The year round independent school places strong emphasis on agriculture and sustainability.

"We're very proud of our Little Farmers program, says Director Julia Nambalirwa-Lugudde. We've just never gotten such a great start outside before!"

The students help prepare, seed, tend, and harvest their own food, and this year plan to have the whole irrigation system be self-sustaining.

"We have a very small campus," says Dan Welch, Nambalirwa-Lugudde's husband and co-Director. "It's not like we are going out to plant the South 40 with wheat. But we are trying to expand our food production, to show the kids what it takes and how important it is to be connected to the land."
