Heritage Days on Tuesday, Aug. 5: Ice Cream Bowl, Witch House Story Time

Heritage Days on Tuesday includes the Ice Scream Bowl on the Common and a free story time at the Witch House.

The fifth day of the Salem Heritage Days on Tuesday, Aug. 5 includes a Historic Houses tour, Story Time at the Witch House and the Ice Scream Bowl. Here’s the schedule for Tuesday:

“Huzzah for History!” at the House of the Seven Gables; 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Come by the spectacular house made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and venture back into Salem’s maritime history! Families can pick up a Navigation Packet at the visitor center, which includes a ship’s log and compass, and begin their voyage of discovery navigating around the museum grounds! The Navigation Packet is available all day during Heritage Days and is included as part of the general admission price: $12.50 for adults, $11.50 for seniors age 65 and up and $7.50 for ages 5-12.

Peabody Essex Museum

Come tour the historic houses at the Peabody Essex Museum and experience three centuries of extraordinary New England architecture, set in Federal-style gardens, that is found within one city block next to the museum. The tour free with museum admission to out-of-town patrons and admission and the tour are free to Salem residents. Space is limited and is based on first come, first serve. Everyone must check in at the admission desk before the tour.

Family Activities at The House of the Seven Gables; noon - 2 p.m.

The House of the Seven Gables, 115 Derby St.

Each day, experience several unique activities at the House of the Seven Gables as you step back into early New England and learn about Lacemaking, 18th-century writing skills and colonial toys and games. Call 978-744-0991 for more details. Programs are included in the cost of admission: $12.50 for adults, $11.50 for seniors age 65 and up and $7.50 for ages 5-12.

Story Time at the Witch House; 5-5:30 p.m.

Witch House, 310 ½ Essex St.

Ice Scream Bowl; 6-7:30 p.m.

Salem’s Ice Scream Bowl is back! It’s time to sample some of the best ice cream in the North Shore from some of the many ice cream shops the area has to offer. It will be held rain or shine. The event is a chance to taste some classic favorite flavors, as well as try a few new ones, from the area’s premier ice cream shops. Participating vendors scheduled to participate include Maria’s Sweet Somethings, Salem Screamery, Cherry Farm Creamery, Captain Dusty’s, E.W. Hobbs, and the Mix 104.1 ice cream truck. Cost: $5 for adults and $3 for children.
