Heritage Days on Wednesday, Aug. 6: Witches Cup Bike Race, Dance Enthusiasm Performance
Heritage Days on Wednesday includes the Witches Cup criterium bicycle race at Salem Common and Dance Enthusiasm at Salem Willows.

The sixth day of the Salem Heritage Days on Wednesday, Aug. 6 includes the annual Witches Cup bike race at Salem Common and a Dance Enthusiasm performance at Salem Willows. Here’s the schedule for Wednesday:
“Huzzah for History!” at the House of the Seven Gables; 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Come by the spectacular house made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and venture back into Salem’s maritime history! Families can pick up a Navigation Packet at the visitor center, which includes a ship’s log and compass, and begin their voyage of discovery navigating around the museum grounds! The Navigation Packet is available all day during Heritage Days and is included as part of the general admission price: $12.50 for adults, $11.50 for seniors age 65 and up and $7.50 for ages 5-12.

Each day, experience several unique activities at the House of the Seven Gables as you step back into early New England and learn about the timeless tales of Salem’s famous author Nathaniel Hawthorne, Lacemaking and Colonial Toys and Games. Call 978-744-0991 for more details. Programs are included in the cost of admission: $12.50 for adults, $11.50 for seniors age 65 and up and $7.50 for ages 5-12.
Shelter to Showpiece Tour; 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Peabody Essex Museum
Come tour the historic houses at the Peabody Essex Museum and experience three centuries of extraordinary New England architecture, set in Federal-style gardens, that is found within one city block next to the museum. The tour free with museum admission to out-of-town patrons and admission and the tour are free to Salem residents. Space is limited and is based on first come, first serve. Everyone must check in at the admission desk before the tour.

Witches Cup Bike Race; 4-8 p.m.
Salem Common
It is the eighth year since the reincarnation of the Witches Cup and the 36th anniversary of the original Witches Cup Salem comes alive with the unmistakable beehive hum of professional bicycle racing. North Shore residents and bicycling fans from across the country will experience one of the country’s most unique bicycle races. The 2014 Witches Cup presents bicycle racing for both men and women at all levels. The category 3-4 race starts 4:35 p.m., the State Championship Women’s Open starts at 5:30 p.m. and the Men’s Pro-1-2-3 race starts at 6:30 p.m. Free for spectators. Salem Willows Band Shell
Salem’s Dance Enthusiasm Dance Company, winners of hundreds of awards at dance competitions across the United States, performs at the Salem Willows Band Shell. Free.
