Man Attempts to Paraglide Down Derby Wharf

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police log:
Sunday, March 18
- At 5:54 p.m. a resident reported their dog was threatened on Washington Street.
- At 6:28 p.m., police responded toon Washington Street for a woman who was upset. The woman was upset she had no place to stay. Police brought the woman to Lifebridge.
- At 9:03 p.m., police and fire were called to 12 Pope Street for an apartment fire.

- At 12:18 a.m., police responded to an intoxicated male on Essex Street. The man told police he had actually injured his foot and was walking to the hospital.
- At 4:35 a.m., a Paradise Road resident complained about someone using a leaf blower. No sounds were audible when police arrived.
- At 8:10 a.m., a Victory Road resident reported his vehicle's back window was smashed overnight as it was parked in his driveway.
- A person walked into the police station at 8:13 a.m. to state he was walking to school on Willson Street earlier that morning when a vehicle pulled out of a driveway and struck him, knocking him to the ground. The man got up and started walking to the passenger side of the car but the driver just continued to back up and drove away.
- At 8:27 a.m., a resident of Union Street reported their car was broken into overnight. A bag of ballet equipment valued at $100 was stolen.
- A car window was discovered smashed at 10:28 a.m. and a car radio stolen from a car on Harbor Street.
- A car was reported broken into on English Street at 10:40 a.m.
- Another resident of Union Street reported her car was broken into overnight.
- A resident of Palmer Street was issued a disorderly house notification at 12:18 p.m.
- At 12:34 p.m., police assisted Peabody Police in searching for an elderly female. She was found and brought to Howard Street.
- At 1:18 p.m., police received a report an undesirable person was "building a contraption" on New Derby Street at Klop Alley. The man was building a bike ramp. He was advised to clean up and leave.
- At 1:48 p.m., police responded to the Custom House. The lead park ranger told police earlier in the day, a person was attempting to paraglide on Derby Wharf. Rangers advised the man it is against Federal regulations to paraglide on the property.
- A three-car motor vehicle crash was reported on North Street at 5:22 p.m.
The following people were arrested:
- Brendon J. Desmond, 21, 62 Beaver St., was charged with assault by a dangerous weapon.
- Michelle C. Desmond, 41, 62 Beaver St., was charged with assault by a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, being a disorderly person and assault and battery on a police officer.
- Brenda C. Rodriguez, 19, 7 Oak St., Peabody, was charged with failure to yield and driving without being licensed.
