Mayor Driscoll to Join Train Riders Headed to Free Museum Visit

In addition to a free visit to the Boston Museum of Science in September, residents can also join the mayor on a free train trip to Boston.

Mayor Kimberley Driscoll and her family will lead one of the commuter rail trips to the Boston Museum of Science as part of September Salem Days.

On Saturday, Sept. 27 Driscoll will join museum visitors on the MBTA train that leaves Salem at 10:38 a.m. headed to North Station. The roundtrip ride is free to Salem residents who are headed to the museum.

During September, Salem residents and their families can visit the museum’s 700 interactive exhibits, live presentations, indoor lightning show and hands-on demonstrations for free one time. Salem residents will also be able to watch an IMAX film in the Mugar Omni Theater or a show in the Charles Hayden Planetarium for free.

It is the fifth straight year that the benefit has been offered to Salem residents with funding from the Norman H. Read Trust.

Museum passes have been mailed to every Salem home, plus passes will be available to Salem residents at Salem City Hall, Salem Public Library and Salem Parks and Recreation Department. The passes will also be distributed in Salem public school classrooms.

“I would like to thank Dr. Nile Albright and the Norman H. Read Trust for funding this initiative that benefits all of Salem’s residents,” Driscoll said in an announcement. “This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to experience a fun day of learning with their children.”
