New Trial Granted for Salem Mother in Attempted Murder of Son

Kristen LaBrie was convicted of withholding at-home chemotherapy treatments from her son.

Salem, MA - The Massachusetts Supreme Court has granted a new trial to a Salem mother who was convicted of attempted murder for withholding chemotherapy treatment from her autistic son who had cancer.

Kristen LaBrie was convicted in 2011 for withholding at-home chemotherapy treatments for her son, Jeremy Glaser. The nine-year-old boy died in 2009.

On Wednesday, the state's Supreme Judicial Court reversed a judge’s order denying LaBrie a motion for a new trial on an attempted murder charge.

The court also overturned assault and battery charges but upheld a charge of reckless endangerment of a child.

LaBrie stated that she stopped giving the chemotherapy to her son because the side effects made him extremely ill.

LaBrie was sentenced to eight to 10 years in prison and is currently at the the minimum security South Middlesex Correctional Center in Framingham.
