Peabody Man Pleads Guilty In Crash That Killed Salem Man

"Not a day has passed since that night that my heart does not ache with guilt," Michael Hery said to a Salem Superior Court judge.

PEABODY, MA — A Peabody man was sentenced to three to four years in prison after pleading guilty in Salem Superior Court Wednesday to charges stemming from a crash that left a Salem man dead.

According to the Salem news, which first reported this story, Michael P. Hery, 23, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drunken driving. Hery's blood alcohol level was .15, nearly twice the legal limit, after the Dec. 19, 2018 crash that killed Paul Mauras, 51, of Salem and seriously injured Nancy Silveira, 44, of Peabody.

"Not a day has passed since that night that my heart does not ache with guilt over the idiotic decision I chose to make that night, and the needless suffering it has caused," Hery said in a statement he read to Judge Salim Tabit.
