Suspect In Custody After Gun Scare Near Salem State
The MBTA suspended service on the Rockport line and Salem State issued a shelter in place order as police searched for the suspect.

SALEM, MA — Salem State University lifted a shelter in place order for its South Campus after police arrested a man who reportedly had a rifle near the university. The order had been put in place as university and Salem police responded to a report of a man with a gun near the university. According to scanner reports, the suspect was being cooperative.
According to scanner reports, police were searching the railroad tracks that run through the neighborhood after reports of an "individual with a rifle." The MBTA halted service briefly on the Rockport line as the search was underway.
In one transmission, police said they were following an ambulance to Salem Hospital. It was not clear if anyone was injured or if the transmission was related to the incident at Salem State.
