Salem Apartment Fire Leaves 12 Families Homeless

The fire started in the basement and spread through the walls and ceilings of the building on North Pine Street in Salem.

SALEM, MA — The American Red Cross is assisting 12 Salem families that were displaced by an early-morning fire Sunday.

Salem fire fighters were called to the North Pine Street apartment building around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The fire, which started in the basement, got into the walls and ceilings and worked its way up to the fourth floor before fire fighters were able to put it out.
