Salem Fire Department Honors Kevin O'Boyle

O'Boyle, a former Salem firefighter and decorated Army veteran, passed away in 2013.

Salem, MA - Today, Salem firefighters held a brief remembrance ceremony for former firefighter and Army veteran Kevin O'Boyle.

O'Boyle passed away in 2013 and today would have been his 34th birthday.

After high school, O'Boyle enlisted with the United States Army and served two Tours of Duty in Afghanistan before he was honorably discharged in 2006. He later re-enlisted with the Army Reserves for three years before he was discharged from active duty in March of 2012. After his discharge from active duty, he remained a Staff Sergeant in the Massachusetts National Guard.

O'Boyle was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with four stars, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Global War of Terrorism Service Medal among other numerous medals he received with Regiment 1-182 and the 82nd Airborne Division.

Honorably discharged in 2006, he began his employment with the City of Salem’s Fire Department for five years and then transferred to the Cambridge Fire Department in 2013.

The large American flag seen in the photo was generously donated to the Salem Fire Department By Aggregate Industries of Swampscott Road in Salem. The flag will be used by the department and the region for special events. The Salem Fire Department thanked Aggregate Industries for its continued support of the department and the community.
