Salem, MassHire North Shore Awarded $500K State Grant

The Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant is from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

SALEM, MA — A $500,000 state grant will provide training and placement services for 100 unemployed or underemployed Salem and regional residents for work at several North Shore companies.

The Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant was presented to the city of Salem and the MassHire North Shore Workforce Board through the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The grant will train workers for jobs at partner companies, including Harmonic Drive, Innovent Technologies, Microline Surgical and Krohne.

"Programs like the Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant help current and future workers build lifelong skills that will advance their careers and bolster the Commonwealth's workforce," State Sen. Joan Lovely (D-Salem) said in announcing the grant this week. "Thank you to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and their partnership with Commonwealth Corporation for the effort to strengthen the Commonwealth’s workforce."

Grants from the program aim to enhance the competitiveness of Massachusetts businesses by closing the skills gap, increasing access to well-paying jobs for unemployed and underemployed residents, and strengthening productivity and workforce needs among employers in regions throughout Massachusetts.
