Salem Parking Fees Waived With December Food Donations

The city's annual "Peas for Fees" program allows residents to get out of paying late fees on citations with the donation of canned goods.

SALEM, MA — Drivers who picked up parking violations in the Witch City over the past year — and may not have been prompt in paying up — can get those late fees waived with the donation of canned goods during December as part of the city's "Peas for Fees" program.

The annual program allows for the forgiveness of up to $30 in late fees with the donation of two canned goods. It begins on Sunday and extends through Dec. 23.

All food will go to local Salem food pantries.

Food items can be brought to the City Collector's Office at Salem City Hall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.

The original ticket must still be paid at the time of donation.
