Salem Police K9 Liberty Aids Chelsea Cocaine, Fentanyl Bust

SALEM, MA — Salem and Everett police are crediting Salem police K9 Liberty with providing essential assistance in the seizure of more than 1,100 grams of fentanyl and 63 grams of cocaine on the North Shore.

Everett Police Chief Paul Strong said the narcotics detection dog and a Massachusetts State Police K9 aided the Everett Special Criminal Investigations Unit and Chelsea police in a joint investigation into drug trafficking in the Greater Boston area.

Seized in the March 19 bust on Spencer Avenue were 1,138 grams of fentanyl and cocaine.

Two Chelsea men are facing drug charges as well as detaining on other outstanding warrants.

Police said they also seized about $12,000 in cash, several cell phones and drug distribution-related items.

"This is another example of excellent teamwork between agencies," Chief Strong said. "We have worked together with these agencies for several years and the dedication and hard work that these agencies do to rid communities of these dangerous drugs is incredible"
