Salem State Cuts Workforce By 9.5 Percent

While about a third of the workers will be replaced, Salem State University still expects to save $6.6 million per year.

SALEM, MA — The Boston business Journal is reporting that Salem State University trimmed its workforce by 9.5 percent beginning in 2021 after 82 employees agreed to accepted buyouts. While the university will eventually replace about a third of the workers, it still expects to save $6.6 million per year. The departing workers include 22 faculty members, 23 administrators, 31 members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and six non-union workers.
