Thick Fog to Reduce Visibility Sunday Night, Monday Morning

A dense fog advisory is in effect for Salem on Sunday night and Monday morning because visibility may drop below a quarter mile.

Dense fog may reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less and “lead to significant visibility restrictions” on Sunday night and early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A dense fog advisory was issued on Sunday night at about 8:30 p.m. for the North Shore, including parts of Essex and Middlesex counties, ranging from the New Hampshire line south to Cambridge and east to Gloucester. The weather service said the possibility existed that the advisory may be expanded since the area experiencing thick fog may spread.

The fog is expected to affect drivers and the weather service said drivers should use caution, slow down and allow extra time to travel. The weather service said objects in the road may only be seen “at close range.”
