Evening Outdoor Activities Suspended in Swansea

One case of West Nile Virus has been discovered in Swansea mosquitoes. Four cases have been found in Seekonk mosquitoes.

Schools in Swansea are banning evening outdoor activities to protect residents from mosquito-borne illness, according to a MYFoxBoston report.

The announcement comes in the midst of the first human case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) found in Massachusetts this week.

In Swansea, there have been no findings of EEE, but West Nile Virus was discovered in a mosquito on Aug. 2. Neighboring Seekonk has seen four cases of West Nile Virus in mosquitos, including one found on Aug. 15, according to the Massachusetts Department of Health. EEE has been discovered in neighboring Rehoboth.
