Arlene Bosco Named Seekonk Schools Chief

She has been running the district as interim superintendent since last May.

The Seekonk School Committee determined Saturday the woman who has been running the district since the superintendent abruptly left in May should continue to do the job. The committee voted to hire interim Superintendent Arlene Bosco to the regular position as district head.

Bosco told Patch she was excited about the decision.

"The support from staff, the school committee, parents and other members of the community has been overwhelming," wrote Bosco in an email to Seekonk Patch. "I have had a long-standing commitment to the district and intend to work hard to make it even better."

Bosco was promoted from director of pupil personnel services to interim superintendent May 21, three days after Madeline Meyer resigned under still unexplained circumstances. Bosco was one of 39 people who applied to be superintendent. The school committee announced earlier this month she and Nauset Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Bonny Gifford were the two finalists for the job.
