Region Roundup: Seekonk Committee Members Appointed, Hernandez Saga Continues, and Officers Allegedly Assaulted in Stoughton

James Troiano and Timothy Moisao are both coming to Seekonk to work and volunteer for the town and were appointed at last week's meeting.

Moisao was hired as the town’s electrician, who will be a part-time employee to work for 20 hours and be on call. Department of Public Works Robert Lamoureux said he recommended Moisao because he has experience in heating venting and air conditioning systems. Lamoureux said HVAC currently costs the town quite a lot of money in contracts since the work is put out to third party vendors.

A Taunton woman, Clarissa Garriga, 23, was recently arrested for drunk driving, along with a number of other offenses, following a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Washington St. and Walnut St. in Stoughton.

Once pulled over by police, Garriga became "completely belligerent," Devine said, including assaulting officers, spitting on them, using racial slurs and urinating on the floor of the police station.

Eleven-year-old Livia Davis of Canton recently had the unique opportunity to observe a training session with a 400-pound gorilla.

Livia had won a first-of-its-kind contest sponsored by ARCH Orthodontics where she goes for her braces. The prize: An up-close and personal training session with western lowland gorilla Okpara (‘Okie’), a male gorilla that resides at the zoo’s Tropical Forest gorilla exhibit.
