Seekonk to Delay Placement of Medical Pot Dispensaries for a Year
This will allow a year to create a bylaw designating the placement of medical marijuana dispensaries.

The Seekonk Board of Selectmen last week gave permission to the Planning Board to place a temporary moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries. This will allow for a one-year period of planning to create a bylaw governing the placement of medical marijuana dispensaries.
A warrant article will be placed on the June town meeting agenda and the Planning Board will hold a hearing.
Massachusetts voters approved a proposition legalizing medical marijuana in November. The proposition allows local governments to decide where and how dispensaries could be placed until the state issues regulations a year after the vote.

The law put together a registry, run by the state, and allowed the creation of 35 nonprofit medical marijuana treatment centers.
Individuals are allowed to grow and dispense medical marijuana if they are given a caregiver designation by the state.
