Seekonk Veterans Memorial Park Moving Forward

Chair of the memorial park committee Don Kinniburgh said they are close to start fundraising and building the project.

Vietnam Veteran Don Kinniburgh, who is a former Seekonk selectman and veterans agent and now heads a committee to create a veterans memorial park, says progress is moving toward the installation of the memorial at a property next to the Seekonk Public Library.

"We're just getting to the point now where we're getting things straightened out for the town," he said. "It's more or less this generation thanking the previous generation for what they did regarding our country."

Kinniburgh said the location already includes grassland. Memorial benches and stones commemorating veterans will be added.

"It goes a couple hundred feet along the avenue," he said. "It's not going to be just a monument; it's going to have seats and it's going to have stones representing the five services and the names of veterans who served from the town of Seekonk."

Kinniburgh said fundraising for the park will begin as soon as plans are ratified by town officials.

"As soon as we get things straightened with the library and a zoning issue with the zoning board, we'll start raising funds and then build the memorial," he said.
