Town Of Seekonk: 3G Shutdown Alert

Major cell carriers are in the process of phasing out 3G technology.  Sunset completion dates vary among carriers, ranging from February 2022 through December 2022.  The retirement of this technology will affect certain cell phones (models older than the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S4) and other public safety devices that still rely on 3G networks, resulting in the loss of call and data functions, including the ability to dial 911. 

Attached please find an EOPSS Alert regarding the decision by mobile carriers to shut down the 3G network and an FCC consumer guide on the same topic. The message is simple: call your carrier to determine if you have a 3G phone or device that will be impacted by this change.
