Five Canton residents, including Jennifer and Michael Mazzola, two siblings, were awarded scholarships from residents of Orchard Cove, a Hebrew SeniorLife senior living community in Canton offering living options that span the full continuum of care. The residents established the Orchard Cove Scholarship Program over two decades ago to fund the educational goals of Orchard Cove employees.

These five staff members from Canton join 15 other Orchard Cove employees to be selected for this year’s scholarship program. More than 120 employees have been awarded scholarships since the program’s inception. This year’s Canton scholarship recipients, their school and course of study are as follows:

  • Jennifer Mazzola, Vanderbilt University, Engineering
  • Michael Mazzola, Dartmouth University, Economics & Data Science
  • Mauria Laurenza Jean-Paul, UMass Boston, Information Technology
  • Kaitlyne Theodore, Massasoit Community College, Psychology
  • Rose Belizaire, Massasoit Community College, Nursing

Unlike most scholarships that are funded by organizations or municipalities, this initiative was created by the residents of Orchard Cove, who also funded the scholarships. The latest scholarship recipients were recognized in a special ceremony on August 4, 2021.

“We are extremely thankful to our residents who initiated this scholarship program for up-and-coming employees,” said Orchard Cove Executive Director Aline Russotto. “For many of these staff members, the scholarships make the difference in being able to afford higher education. We so look forward to seeing how these employees make their mark at Orchard Cove and beyond.”

The residents already have plans to continue to raise funds for scholarships in 2022 and beyond.
