Local Indivisible Group Launches Lawn Sign Campaign

Learn about what a local pro-democracy group is doing.

Indivisible Mansfield and Beyond, a grassroots pro-democracy group based in Southeastern Massachusetts, has grown from just 8 founding members in someone’s kitchen to almost 700 people in less than a year. Over 100 of those people live in Sharon. The group sends out a weekly newsletter and organizes rallies, postcard-writing campaigns to voters, highway banner messages, resistance and safety trainings, and community-building events. Their mission: to engage enough citizens to meet the 3.5% rule — the tipping point identified by researchers as critical to successfully countering authoritarianism.

As part of its latest effort, Indivisible Mansfield and Beyond is now offering lawn signs bearing the message “Defend Democracy — It’s Up to Us.” The signs serve a dual purpose: recruiting new members and letting community members know they are not alone in their concerns about the direction of the country.

“People are looking around and thinking, am I the only one who feels that what’s happening under the Trump administration is crazy? We want them to know they are not alone — and that they can be part of real change,” said Marcia Szymanski, one of the group’s leaders.

Laura Salomons, fellow leader of the movement, added: “Our rapid growth shows that people are hungry for ways to take action. This isn’t just about resisting — it’s about building a resilient, connected community that stands up for democracy together.”
