She recently lobbied lawmakers in Washington and confronted the FAA administrator at a House hearing, urging continued scrutiny of Boeing 737 Max jets and encouraging ordinary citizens to engage directly with government oversight.

• Housatonic Valley Association presents awards to local environmental heroes (theberkshireedge.com) — Sheffield residents can take pride in the Sheffield Land Trust, whose executive director Kathy Orlando just received a major regional conservation award for helping protect over 1,200 acres around Ashley Falls and nearby Salisbury, Conn. The Housatonic Valley Association honored Orlando and partners for a once-in-a-generation land protection effort that strengthens wildlife habitat and farmland conservation across the valley.
