Authorities Lowering Lake Quinsigamond Water Level
The purpose is so they can expose the roots of "nuisance aquatic vegetation" that proliferates the lake and pond.

SHREWSBURY, MA—The Lake Quinsigamond Commission plans to lower the water level, or "draw down," Lake Quinsigamond and Flint Pond on or about Thursday, Nov. 1.
In addition, the Irish Dam in Grafton is going to be lowered two or three inches a day until the water elevation in Lake Quinsigamond and Flint Pond is 24 to 30 inches lower than normal.
So, why do they do this?

The purpose is so they can expose the roots of "nuisance aquatic vegetation" that proliferates the lake and pond to freezing temperatures. That will reduce some of the heavy weed growth near the shoreline.
The action still needs to be approved by the Conservation Commission in Worcester, Grafton and Shrewsbury, as well as the MA Department of Environmental Protection.
