Lacing Up is Hard to Do

It's hard to get moving.

Last week I wrote about no more excuses, ordering takeout and my promise to my leader Kathy that I would have a back-up plan.

Another week is here and unfortunately, so, too, are the excuses. This time the excuses come with any mention of activity.

I know the drill: To lose weight, I need to eat fewer calories and burn more. I'm pretty much down with the eating less, but the mere sight of my waiting sneakers gives me a panic attack.

First thought: I should clean the house...for 10 hours. Second thought: I think my hair needs to be shampooed. And on and on.

I even have methods with which I try to trick myself. I bought news sneakers—two pair. I left them by the door to the bedroom so I trip over them when I exit. I wore workout clothes all day so I could jump to action if the feeling hit me. I even tried napping in my workout clothes, including my sneakers! No luck.

Then it hit me: I would make it someone else's problem. This week I blamed the dogs. They needed me to walk them in the gorgeous weekend weather.

What do you know? It worked! And the timing couldn't have been more perfect: right before my family reunion that afternoon. Activity points equalled more food points!

This week's weigh-in put me a pound down. Now I just need to find someone else who needs me to work out!
