SHREWSBURY, MA — A cannabis courier has entered into a host-community agreement with Shrewsbury, although the location will be a cannabis-free operation.

The Shrewsbury Select Board in December authorized the town manager to sign the host-community agreement with Finest Trees LLC. The document spells out ground rules for how the business will operate in town.

Finest Trees will operate an office vehicle storage area along Harrington Avenue just north of Route 9. The office will be just that: a place to keep employee files and supplies, like GPS tracking equipment, for the courier business. No marijuana will be kept there, according to the agreement.

Finest Trees owners Daniel and Rebecca Yarnie are planning to open an adult-use dispensary along Leicester Street in Oxford, and will use the store to operate the courier delivery service.

The host-community agreement with Shrewsbury will allow the owners to get through the Cannabis Control Licensing process. Daniel Yarnie is pursuing the businesses under the state's social equity program, which assists people harmed by marijuana laws in getting into the cannabis industry. Yarnie, who grew up in Worcester, was caught with marijuana in high school leading to his banishment from a high school basketball team, according to the Worcester Business Journal.
