Herbicide Treatment Coming To Lake Quinsigamond

The herbicide application on Wednesday will affect lake users and adjacent residents. Invasive milfoil plants are being targeted.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Plan to avoid Lake Quinsigamond water on Wednesday.

Worcester'S Department of Sustainability and Resilience and the Lake Quinsigamond Commission will be applying herbicide to the lake to control the growth of invasive — and outboard motor-tangling — milfoil plants.

But the herbicide, called florpyrauxifenbenzyl, or trade name ProcellaCOR, does come with some precautions. Water from the lake should not be used for activities like watering lawns or feeding to pets or livestock.

Boaters should also avoid the King’s Point and Gauch Park portions of the lake. Boating can disrupt ProcellaCOR, rendering it ineffective.

The lake will be available for normal use on Thursday — even for watering your livestock.
