Man Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop

The following information was provided by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Jan. 14

7:23 a.m.: An officer issued two written warnings while on a traffic assignment on Main Street.

8:34 a.m.: The Animal Control Officer recovered a lost dog on Worthington Avenue.

8:54 a.m.: Officers from the Police Department checked Route 9 near South Street after a report was received of a man sitting on the jersey barrier. The report was unfounded.

9:38 a.m.: A caller reported a suspicious male in his 20s entering the Floral Street school grounds. Officers checked the area but did not find the man.

10:20 a.m.: A man fitting the same description as the previous incident was reported on Main Street. Once again officers were unable to find the man.

12:28 p.m.: An officer reported a failure to stop on Boston Turnpike. A short time later Sudip Sengupta, 30, of 55 Commons Ave. was arrested in Worcester. Sengupta was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property over $250, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop. There was also a warrant out for Sengupta for charges of witness intimidation, violating an abuse prevention order and possession of an electric stun gun.
