SHREWSBURY, MA — One of the area's largest sports clubs reopened this week after a major renovation that started during pandemic shut-downs.

The 90,000 square-foot Shrewsbury Club along Tennis Drive has expanded its gym facilities, including indoor courts for tennis, racquetball and pickleball.

The club has also expanded its instruction programs, now offering summer camp programs, martial arts, and coaching in sports like tennis, baseball and basketball.

"I did national searches and hired baseball professionals from around the country,”owner Nate Sorensen said in a news release. “I relocated them here, to give our players the most development and best coaching I could get.”

The Shrewsbury Club reemerges amid a shifting fitness landscape nearby following pandemic shut-downs. Two new Planet Fitness gyms opened in the area along Lincoln Street in Worcester and along Milk Street in Westborough. The latter opened followed the closure of Westborough's Crunch Fitness earlier this year.

"We’re doing everything possible to make sure our members feel safe. We have emerged stronger and safer, with more programming and services for our local community, and we truly appreciate the support we received from the local community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic," Sorensen said in a news release.
