The ever-controversial MBTA Communities Act had another challenger - this time out of Shrewsbury. The referendum to overturn changes failed.

The MBTA Communities Act has faced plenty of challenges across the Commonwealth. Shrewsbury is the latest to take it to bat, but the referendum failed to meet the minimum threshold to overturn.

SHREWSBURY, MA - A Feb. 4 vote to repeal changes made through the MBTA Communities Act failed to pass.

Voters were asked whether they wanted to uphold or overturn the town's zoning amendments that were changed in response to the MBTA Communities Act. A large number of voters opposed the changes, but the referendum failed to meet the legal minimum required to reverse a Town Meeting decision.

The "No" votes outnumbered the "Yes" votes, but to pass at least 20% of all registered voters (5,274) is required. There were only 2,222 for this referendum.
