Uptick In Home Break-Ins, Shrewsbury Police Issues Safety Guidelines

SHREWSBURY, MA - Following a reported increase in home break-ins in Shrewsbury from the polcie department, they issued guidelines and safety recommendations for residents to better protect themselves.

How to reduce risk:

• Lock all doors and windows when you leave, even if you're heading out briefly.
• Keep outdoor lights on at night, and consider motion-activated lighting.
• Do not leave valuables in plain sight.
• If you're away, use timers on lights and ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your home.
• Avoid posting travel plans on social media.
• Install security cameras or an alarm system if possible.

Police recommend residents to notify them if they see any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. Useful descriptions to report include:

• Description of the person (clothing, height, hair color, etc.)
• Description of vehicles (make, model, color, license plate if possible)
• Time and location of suspicious activity
• Any unusual behavior, such as someone looking into windows, knocking on doors without a clear reason or attempting to open gates and fences.
