A Tale of Two Trash Cans: Davis Square and Porter Square

Nearly identical trash cans in Davis Square and Porter Square display different levels of cleanliness.

The photos above show two trash cans: one in Davis Square, the other in Porter Square.

Both photos were taken on Sunday, which was Father's Day, on a walk from Teele Square to Porter Square and back.

Both trash cans are BigBelly solar-powered receptacles, which compact the trash you throw in them.

You'll notice one seems cleaner than the other.

The clean one sits outside Tags Hardware in the Porter Square shopping center, just across the Somerville border in Cambridge.

The dirty one sits in the middle of Davis Square's Statue Park (outside Boston Burger Company and J.P. Licks).

Anecdotally—since I walk by and observe these trash cans often—these photos are pretty typical of their normal conditions.
