Artist of the Month: 'Girls Rock' Musician Stephanie Melikian
A classically trained cellist and a self-taught drummer and guitarist is this month's artist of the month.
Stephanie Melikian, a Somerville cellist, guitarist and drummer, has been named July's Artist of the Month by the Somerville Arts Council, according to an announcement from the arts council.
According to the announcement, Melikian is a classically-trained cellist and a self-taught guitarist and drummer.
She's played in a number of ensembles and is heavily involved in the Girls Rock Campaign Boston, a program that teaches girls ages 8 to 17 "self-expression, confidence, and collaboration through musical education and performance," according to the organization's website.
Melikian is a Girls Rock band coach and drum instructor, and she coordinates instrument and gear donations, according to the Somerville Arts Council's announcement.
