Bulger's Former Protege Testifies
Kevin Weeks had a few surprises on the witness stand Monday.

Kevin Weeks, James "Whitey" Bulger's one-time protege, was in court Monday to testify in the trial of the notorious gangster.
Weeks, one of the prosecution's key witnesses, said it was Bulger who shot Brian Halloran in 1982, gunning him down in a car after Halloran left Anthony's Pier 4 restaurant on the South Boston waterfront, according to Boston.com.
Weeks said Bulger kept shooting Halloran, and "his body was bouncing on the ground," the news website says.
Michael Donahue, who was giving Halloran a ride but wasn't a target, was also killed in the attack.
According to WBUR, Weeks testified that he, Bulger and Stephen Flemmi went to Flemmi's mom's house after the shooting, where Bulger bragged about his role in the hit.
Weeks also testified about Bulger's role in the buying a liquor store in South Boston in 1984.
The commonly told story is that Weeks and Bulger held the owner, Stephen "Stippo" Rakes, at gunpoint and forced him to sell the store.
In a twist to the story, Weeks testified Monday that the Bulger crew didn't extort Rakes. Weeks testified that it was Rakes who wanted to sell the liquor store, and that it was Rakes who, at the last minute, tried to get more money for it, according to BostonHerald.com.
Rakes told reporters later in the day that Weeks was lying, BostonHerald.com reported.
Weeks said Bulger and his crew used the liquor store as a front to make it look like they had a legitimate source of income.
Weeks is expected back on the witness stand Tuesday.
