The first ever Intercultural City Award will be handed out at the April 25 culinary event.

The East Somerville Community School PTA will receive the first annual Intercultural City Award, which will be given by The Welcome Project at its April 25 culinary event, YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City.
The event features 11 restaurants representing Somerville's array of global cuisine and immigrant culture. It benefits The Welcome Project, a Somerville immigrant advocacy group.
According to an announcement from The Welcome Project, the group is honoring the East Somerville Community School PTA for its effort to engage parents in East Somerville, where the majority of parents are immigrants.

In a statement, Warren Goldstein-Gelb, director of The Welcome Project, said, "By having interpretation at meetings, creating multilingual documents, and having multiple sessions of meetings to accommodate different work schedules, the PTA has noticeably increased parental participation over the last two years."
YUM takes place at The Center for Arts at the Armory, and tickets are available at yumsomerville.org.
