Markey Wins Somerville Democrats Straw Poll

The Somerville Democratic City Committee also elected a new chair and vice chair.

Rep. Ed Markey beat Rep. Stephen Lynch in a straw poll taken by the Somerville Democratic City Committee.

According to an announcement from the Somerville Democrats, Markey received 51 votes and Lynch received 5 votes in a straw poll taken Monday night.

In addition, the Democratic committee unanimously voted to elect Keri Rodrigues Lorenzo as its new chair, according to the announcement.

Lorenzo, a Somerville native, was a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention. She headed Somerville for Obama in the recent presidential election and has served as chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party's women's caucus, .

The committee's former chair, Kate Chang, stepped down in February.
