Update, July 1: An email notice from the Green Line Extension team says the road closure will go into effect on July 5, not July 1, as an earlier construction schedule said.
Here's what the email notice says:
The Green Line Extension (GLX) team wanted to notify you of upcoming Phase 1 project work in Somerville. Beginning on July 5, 2013 for approximately three weeks, Medford Street in Somerville will be closed between the McGrath Highway and Ward Street to allow for sandblasting and painting of the Medford St. Railroad Bridge.
A summary of the closure and map of the traffic diversion plan can be found on the GLX website here: http://greenlineextension.eot.state.ma.us/detour_data.html.
This plan was developed after receiving community input at the public meeting held last week in Somerville. This joint meeting with the City of Somerville detailed the reasons for the closure and outlined a preliminary traffic plan. A copy of the presentation can be found here: http://greenlineextension.eot.state.ma.us/docs_meetings.html#Phase1.

Green Line Extension work on the Medford Street railroad bridge will close down part of Medford Street for much of July, according to the Green Line Extension's construction schedule and a presentation delivered on June 25.
This part of Medford Street is in the southeastern part of Somerville, close to the border of East Cambridge, near Target and Twin City Plaza.
The construction schedule says the roadway under the bridge will be closed from July 1 to July 3, and the presentation says it will close again from July 5 to July 21.
From October to December, there could be some lane closures along Medford Street, the presentation says.
Work on the Medford Street Bridge is part of Phase 1 of the Green Line Extension. It also includes work on the Harvard Street Bridge in Medford and the demolition of a building at 21 Water Street in Cambridge to make way for the new Lechmere Station.
Phase 2/2A of the Green Line Extension, which would bring trolleys to Union Square and Washington Street, in Somerville, is expected to be complete in 2017.
