Report: Man Savagely Beaten By Baseball Bat in Broad Daylight

Police found the victim in a pool of blood, and witnesses told how they stood in horror as the assault took place.

A 41-year-old man was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital on April 8 after being beaten mercilessly, in broad daylight and in the middle of the street, by a man with a small baseball bat, according to a Somerville police report.

Police arrested David DeJesus, 37, of 124 Walnut St., and charged him armed assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection to the alleged assault, according to a police booking log.

When police arrived at the scene of the beating, at about 3:36 p.m., they found the victim lying in a "pool of blood directly in front of 124 Walnut Street," the report says.

The victim was in a car, and when it pulled up to 124 Walnut St., where the victim also lived, DeJesus was parked in the middle of the street, the report says.

It says DeJesus got out of his car and the argument continued in person, and then DeJesus picked up a rock and threw it at the victim's chest.

While the victim was hunched over in pain, DeJesus went to his car, took out a small baseball bat and hit the victim several times in the head, knocking him to the ground, the report says.

"As the victim lay helplessly on the sidewalk," DeJesus stood over him and "continued to strike him on the right side of his head sending blood matter airborne," the report says.

DeJesus then got back into his car and fled the area, according to the report.

Witnesses got the car's license place and a good description of the assailant, and one saw DeJesus dump the bat in a nearby property, the report says.

Police arrested DeJesus in Cambridge on April 9, according to the booking log.
