Somerville Fire Lieutenant Retires After Decades Of Service
James Piwinski ended his storied career with the Somerville Fire Department this year.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The fire department celebrated the retirement of Lieutenant James Piwinski this week after more than three decades of service.
Piwinski joined the department in August of 1994 as a firefighter watching over Teele Square, where his decades of service eventually earned him his promotion to Lieutenant in 2021. He retired earlier this year with the department just recently making the announcement.
Piwinski’s son, Jimmy, has followed in his father’s footsteps and also works for the Somerville Fire Department as a firefighter currently stationed at Tower One on 651 Somerville Ave. He will now carry on the legacy as Piwinski’s career is coming to an end. Piwinski’s son-in-law Rory Gallivan also works for the department.
