Somerville Police Officers Commended For Helping With Roadside Birth
Lt. Carmine Vivolo, Officer Courtney Reece and Officer Dylan Lambert helped deliver a healthy baby girl.
SOMERVILLE, MA — Three Somerville Police officers were commended for helping with a roadside childbirth, said the department in a statement Tuesday.
On Tuesday, June 14 around 11 p.m., Lt. Carmine Vivolo, Officer Courtney Reece and Officer Dylan Lambert were working on Washington Street when a pickup truck reportedly pulled up to them and a man got out to ask for help, as his fiancé was in labor and about to give birth.
According to Somerville police, the couple were on their way to Mt. Auburn Hospital, but realized they weren’t going to make it.

The officers immediately assisted in prepping the mother for birth and called an ambulance. The officers, as well as Lt. Blanca Alcaraz of the Somerville Fire Department, were able to safely deliver a baby girl before transferring them to Cataldo Ambulance.
The next day, Reece heard from one of the paramedics that the hospital staff said the baby was perfectly healthy and mom was doing great, said Somerville police. They later received a thank you message from the father.
