Somerville Ranks #40 Safest U.S. City To Raise A Family: Report

SOMERVILLE, MA — Somerville has ranked #40 on a SafeWise report of the 50 safest cities to raise a family in 2022.

The last time SafeWise released this report was 2020, when Somerville ranked #38 on the list. In 2019, the city ranked #34.

According to the report, Somerville had a property crime rate of 11.85 per 1,000 residents and a violent crime rate of 1.88, which is slightly above average compared to other Top 50 safest cities but well below average compared to the rest of the country.

In addition, Somerville had 0.16 sex offenders per 1,000 residents, which is more than three times lower than the average.

The only other Massachusetts city that made the Top 50 list is Newton, which ranked #2, according to SafeWise.
