Somerville Reaches New Agreements With 2 Crucial Unions

Negotiations from the city's side were led by Mayor Katjana Ballantyne.

SOMERVILLE, MA — City leadership announced new contract agreements for its Police Superior Officers Association and SEIU Local 3 Custodians.

The new SPSOA contract features cost-of-living adjustments for Fiscal Years 2022 through 2024, and will be implemented retroactively. The FY22 adjustment is 2%, while FY23 and FY24 is set at 3%. With an additional 2% market adjustment in each fiscal year, the total wage increase amounts to 14% according to the city. Hazardous duty stipends have also been increased to $3,000 for all Somerville police officers.

The custodial agreement is technically a change to the union’s existing contract, and increases every member’s base wage by 2%. The City has also agreed to structurally increase the custodians’ pay scale from 1% steps to 2% steps across the salary schedule beginning in FY26.
