Somerville Sees Spike In Bike Thefts

Police said the majority of the thefts reported last month happened on residents' private property.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Somerville police are warning residents after a recent uptick in bike thefts. The department took 25 reports of stolen bicycles in July, most of which were from residents' private property.

Thefts happened in backyards, garages, storage units and basements, police said. Residents are advised to lock up bikes, record the serial number and take a photo.
